A bit history...
Founded by Alexander Ramsey, this distillery was formerly a corn mill.
He lost his fortune and sold his estate to the Gladstone family in 1829. His son William became Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer... who changed the laws on whisky taxes and made them lower.
At the entrance of the village, there is an arch with a unicorn, built to commemorate a visit of Queen Victoria. This symbol was used in the logo of the distillery's malts.
In 1973, the distillery was purchased by Whyte & Mackay.
The distillery is open to the public and tours are available.
