Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2014
Bottle of 0.7 L
Presentation
The concept of terroir, often associated with the world of wine, highlights the interplay between natural factors such as climate, soil, and topography. Increasingly, this principle is also being embraced by spirits producers, who argue that these elements equally influence high-proof distilled beverages.
A prime example of this approach is Bruichladdich. The renowned Scottish distillery has, for several years, showcased its commitment to local terroir through its "Islay Barley" editions. Unlike the common practice of sourcing barley from mainland suppliers, Bruichladdich prioritizes locally grown barley from farmers on the island of Islay.
This project began in 2004 with the participation of just one farmer. By 2020, it had expanded significantly, involving 19 local farms and meeting nearly 45% of the distillery's barley requirements.
